At dusk on November 15, 1855, the light keeper climbed the winding stairs and lit the light for the first time. What seemed to be a good location 422 feet above sea level, however, had a serious flaw. Learn about this historic lighthouse and how, in spite of it’s short-comings, it served sailors for 36 years.

Although mostly known as the home of the world famous San Diego Zoo, the park also recreation spot for bicyclists, joggers and walkers, features a public tennis club and golf course, or you can choose to enjoy the scenic landscapes of the park, including the Alcazar Garden, or get up close and personal with nature at the Botanical Building. While you are at the park, stop in and visit the San Diego Model Railroad Museum.
San Diego Model Railroad Museum. The San Diego Automotive Museum houses a magnificent display of vintage automobiles and motorcycles.
