About The Speaker
Senator Shane Broadway of Bryant is serving his first term representing a portion of Saline and Pulaski Counties in the Arkansas Senate.
During the 85th General Assembly, he serves as Co-Chairman of the Academic Facilities Oversight Committee. Broadway is also a member of the Senate Education Committee and the Senate State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee. He also is on the Joint Energy Committee, the Joint Budget Committee, the Legislative Joint Audit Committee and the Senate Rules Committee.
Previously, Mr. Broadway served three terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1997-2002. In 2001, he was the youngest Speaker of the House in the history of Arkansas.
Mr. Broadway is a past Chairman of the Southern Legislative Conference. He has been chairman of the SLC’s Education Committee.
Born August 30, 1972, Mr. Broadway is a lifelong resident of Bryant and a graduate of Arkansas State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and received the R.E. Lee Wilson Award, the highest honor given to a graduating senior at ASU. He received an honorary degree from Pulaski Technical College. He is employed by Insight Communications of Bryant as Director of Client Development and Services. He is a member of the Bryant and Benton Chambers of Commerce, the Saline County Farm Bureau, the MS Society of America, the Humane Society and the Saline County Economic Development Committee.
Senator Broadway is a former member of the board of directors of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas Inc., an executive board member of the Ouachita Area Boy Scouts Council and a former member of the board of the American Heart Association of Arkansas.
Senator Broadway is also on the Board of the Central Arkansas Development Council, the Bryant Boys and Girls Clubs and the Quality Teaching and Learning Centers. He is a member of the Arkansas Council on Economic Education.
Mr. Broadway was named an “Outstanding Young Arkansan” by the Arkansas Junior Chamber of Commerce for 1998, and was the recipient of the first Distinguished Service Award of the Department of Political Science at Arkansas State University. He also is in Arkansas Business magazine’s 2000 listing of "Forty Under Forty," which consists of profiles of leading Arkansans under the age of 40.
Mr. Broadway also in 2001 received the Meritorious Service Award from the U.S. Selective Service System for his efforts in encouraging eligible youth to register with the Selective Service. He also received the Leadership Award for 2000 from the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness for his efforts to promote physical fitness and better nutrition.
Mr. Broadway and his wife, Debbie, are members of First Baptist Church in Bryant.
