About The Speaker
Mr. Akers has more than 25 years of experience in all operations of telecommunications, inter-networking and professional services. His career in telecommunications began with Southwestern Bell in forecasting and regulatory affairs. From there he moved to at&t, where he worked for 16 years in various roles. At at&t, Akers served as product manager, sales manager, general manager, director and eventually vice president. When at&t’s Technical Services became part of Lucent Technologies, Akers stayed on as vice president where he redesigned, implemented and directed one of the world’s largest technical service and support operations.

Prior to joining CH2M HILL, Akers served as the president of Lucent Technologies Technical Support Services. He also served as the COO of Lucent’s NetCare Data Services and president of Lucent’s NetCare Professional Service business.

During his tenure at CH2M HILL, Mr. Akers has designed and implemented a reprofiling of the communications construction engineering business into a market leading geospatial consuling and IT services business. 

In 1999, Colorado Governor Bill Owens appointed Akers to the Colorado Science and Technology Commission.
