Mary Kauffman is a part-time Computer Lab Coordinator for the Magic Johnson Empowerment Center situated inside the neighborhood center at University Settlement. In this capacity she is responsible for overseeing the development of the empowerment center and its internal and external educational programming. In addition, she troubleshoots and maintains the hardware; sets up the software environment for best usability; and executes software/hardware maintenance to ensure the empowerment center is running at optimum performance. In conjunction with maintaining the empowerment center, she oversees the technology usage within existing classroom and program areas. Mary Kauffman reports all activities to her supervisor, the Operation Manager. In her position, she trains the directors, managers and program staff on how to use various technologies to better serve their clients/participants. She also trains the staff on software that can assist them in doing their job more effectively and efficiently.

When Mary Kauffman is not filling the role of Computer Lab Coordinator at University Settlement, she is administering technology programs at other neighborhood centers within the Cleveland area. Currently, she manages thirteen sites with technology labs in various stages. For instance, five are currently in existence; five are in the process of restructuring; and the remaining three are in the beginning stages of development. Besides supervising the technology labs, she coordinates with the Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Center Association, NCA, ways to improve, maintain and introduce various technological practices and standards within the neighborhood centers.

Prior to these roles, Mary Kauffman worked as Elderly Services Program Associate, Technology Lab Coordinator, and LifeLearn Coordinator for Goodrich-Gannett Neighborhood Center from January 2000 to August 2007. This was the beginning of her induction to neighborhood centers dwelling within the Cleveland area. Of course, she did not always work and reside in the Ohio region. Her work experience extends further east like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. There, she filtered in and out of various roles from Illustrator to V.P. of Operations, all supporting the pharmaceutical, biological and governmental fields.

Mary Kauffman has experience in the following industries: Medical, Clinical, Governmental and Social Services. She has specialization in the creative roles such as artist, designer, and developer. She also has experience in understanding the inner workings of the profit and non-profit sector and the dynamic challenges within the two.

Mary Kauffman graduated from Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1985 with a major in Specialized Technology. She is a life long learner by dabbling in and out of various colleges and universities in order to stay abreast of the latest technological practices. When not absorbing new technological advances, she assists with the endeavors of RET3 by serving as one of their board members.
